Cheap Chix Weekend: Aug 16th - August 20th



There are a lot of great things in store this weekend, especially if you have a 3- or 4-day weekend.


Thursday, August 16th


Check out the "Through the Mic" series at LACMA. Through the Mic is a new concert series at LACMA that explores contemporary Los Angeles hip hop, with an emphasis on the diversity of L.A.-based artists. Co-curated by LACMA and hip hop artist MURS, concerts will take place in front of artist Chris Burden's iconic Urban Light sculpture.

Friday, August 17th

This Friday and every Friday throughout August from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., it's “Out Of Office Fridays” at Asia De Cuba are the perfect excuse for a Summer Friday and a great start to the weekend. Sip on Mojitos and snack on Asia De Cuba appetizers while enjoying the city view under the sun. Mojitos, Appetizers & Parking are all $5 each.


If you feel like taking a dip during this warm week, then head to the Beverly Hills Hotel for the Summer Poolside Soiree Series. If you're in the Valley that night, then you can check out a $5 - $7 cabaret show at Skinny's Lounge in North Hollywood.

Saturday, August 18th

            On Saturday morning, start the day with brunch at Joe's in Venice where there will be $8 Bottomless Mimosas. After you're stuffed and buzzed, the Hester Street Fair in Hollywood awaits you with their Indie Design Market with food and live music. Or if you want to spend some more time on the west side, check out the L.A. Mobile Arts Festival, where Los Angeles celebrates pioneers of iPhoneography and the underground mobile arts movement with nine days of interactive digital art-iPhone imagery, sound- and video-based works, sculptural and performance art installations at the historic Santa Monica airplane hangar turned cutting-edge arts community.
          
For the South Bay peeps, get centered with free yoga at 10:00 a.m. at Whole Foods El Segundo sponsored by Yogaworks South Bay and then check out the 10th Annual Chalk Art Festival that afternoon at the Redondo Beach Pier.
If you're feeling altruistic, support the SoLA Food Co-Op Fundraiser, a benefit to help start a community owned organic foods market in South LA. Great kid activities early in the evening. Then things really get rocking when the sun goes down. Celebrity hostess, actress Vanessa Williams, with music by Nasambu & the Mystic Nomads, Patrice Quinn, Gruppo Subconscious, Pat Speery, Fabiano Do Nascimiento, Zachary Keane Crocker, plus many more! Food by Revolution Foods! Cooking demos, local artisan foods, youth cooking activities, live "art", face painting, art vendors...and let's not forget salsa dancing lessons! Special guest DJ Dewey DB.



Sunday, August 19

After all of that activity on Saturday, get your brunch on at Bow & Truss in North Hollywood. Then you can get your party on at the Do Over in Hollywood. Or if you’re feeling like you want to get cultured and fit at the same time, then get your bike on at Cause for Creativity: Tour da Arts, Vol. 4.

Monday, August 20

Who says there’s no such thing as a free lunch? Haven Gastropub is making it possible. Haven Gastropub +Brewery in Old Pasadena will debut a pop-up shop, appropriately named Burger Haven for its selection of grass-fed and free-range beef burgers, chicken burger, vegetarian burger and a number of rotating burger specials. In addition to the burgers, there’s specialty milkshakes made from housemade ice cream. The first 100 customers on Monday at 11:00 a.m. get a free burger!
